British actor and comedian Ewen MacIntosh, best known for his portrayal of “Big Keith” in the popular TV series The Office, has passed away at the age of 50. MacIntosh’s character, Keith Bishop, was a memorable figure in the show, known for his love of scotch eggs and his monotone voice. MacIntosh also had roles in other British comedies such as Miranda and Little Britain.

Ricky Gervais, creator of The Office, paid tribute to MacIntosh on Twitter, calling him “an absolute original”. Stephen Merchant, co-writer and co-director of The Office, praised MacIntosh’s comedic timing and ability to “steal scenes” from other actors.

MacIntosh’s other roles included a part in the 2017 romantic comedy Finding Fatimah and a role in the final season of Ricky Gervais’ After Life. In 2021, he discussed his character’s fondness for scotch eggs in an interview with Vice.

Other actors and comedians have also paid tribute to MacIntosh, including Miranda Hart and Matt Lucas. Rufus Jones, who directed and wrote the comedy TV series Home, described MacIntosh as an “absolute pleasure of a guy”.

MacIntosh passed away at Willow Green Care Home in Darlington. The cause of death has not been confirmed. His agency, Just Right Management, announced that there will be a private cremation for family and close friends, followed by a memorial service later in the year.
