BBC Children in Need: A Star-Studded Fundraising Extravaganza
The annual BBC Children in Need appeal is set to captivate audiences with a three-hour live entertainment show on BBC One, featuring an impressive lineup of celebrities and exciting performances aimed at raising money for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
This year’s televised appeal will be hosted by a dynamic team including Ade Adepitan, Chris Ramsey, Rochelle Humes, Vernon Kay, Mel Giedroyc, and Lenny Rush. The show promises a diverse range of entertainment and special moments from beloved British television personalities.
One of the highlights will be BBC Radio 2 presenter Paddy McGuinness, who has just completed an impressive five-day cycling challenge on a children’s Chopper bike. Cycling nearly 300 miles from Wrexham to Glasgow, McGuinness has already raised over £7.5 million for the charity, motivated by the stories of those who have benefited from Children in Need projects.
Fans can look forward to several exciting segments, including a preview of the Doctor Who Christmas special introduced by star Ncuti Gatwa, and a reunion sketch from the beloved sitcom Outnumbered. The Strictly Come Dancing professionals will also perform a special routine alongside the cartoon character Bluey, while the stars of Gladiators will make an appearance.
A particularly poignant moment is expected to be the premiere of a new version of Girls Aloud’s “I’ll Stand By You,” featuring the late Sarah Harding’s solo vocals. The ballad, originally released as a Children In Need single in 2004, will be accompanied by unseen archive footage, honoring Harding, who passed away in 2021.
Other notable celebrities participating in the event include Graham Norton, Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue, Gary Oldman, and Hugh Bonneville. Oldman has recorded a special CBeebies bedtime story, while Ella Henderson will perform, and Kylie has prepared a special message for the show.
Children In Need has a remarkable track record of fundraising, with last year’s event raising £33.5 million. Since its first major appeal in 1980, the charity has raised an incredible total of over £1 billion to support children and young people across the United Kingdom.
