Tragic Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Young Mother in Derbyshire
Alana Armstrong, a 25-year-old mother from Tibshelf, Derbyshire, was killed in a devastating hit-and-run incident involving e-bikes on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred in Pleasley, leaving her six-year-old son motherless and shocking the local community.
According to Derbyshire Police, Armstrong was a passenger on one of two e-bikes when a dark-colored 4×4 vehicle pursued and rammed them on Batley Lane. The male rider of the e-bike suffered severe injuries, requiring amputation of one leg below the knee.
Chief Superintendent Dave Kirby expressed profound sorrow for the loss, emphasizing the devastating impact on Armstrong’s young son and family. “Alana was just 25 – and a mum to a six-year-old boy,” Kirby stated. “Her little boy, along with her wider family, will never get the chance to see her again, hug her again, spend Christmas together, or celebrate all those milestones.”
The police have launched a murder investigation and are seeking public assistance. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle pursuing the e-bikes through Pleasley, with its last known location on Rowthorne Lane, where it turned onto the A617 towards New Houghton. The vehicle was described as a Land Rover Discovery, likely manufactured between 2004 and 2009, driven by a man with a woman in the passenger seat.
A man and woman previously arrested in connection with the incident have been released without charge. Investigators are keeping an open mind about potential connections between the suspects and the victim.
Chief Superintendent Kirby made a direct appeal to potential witnesses and the perpetrator: “We have already received a significant amount of information from the public… However, I know that there is more information out there – and there are people who know who the person responsible is.”
He further urged the driver to come forward, stating, “If you were the driver of the vehicle, come forward and talk to us. We’ll be coming to speak to you at some point… tell us what happened.”
The police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen a Land Rover Discovery in the Pleasley area around the time of the crash. They are committed to finding those responsible for this tragic incident.
Kirby’s emotional statement reflected both professional determination and personal anguish: “As an officer, as a member of the local community, and as a father, I am devastated for her little boy, her family, and her friends and we will do all we can to find those responsible.”
The investigation continues, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact Derbyshire Police and help bring justice for Alana Armstrong and her family.
