Kate Hosts Christmas Carols, Welcomes Southport Families to Festive Event

The Princess of Wales has extended a compassionate invitation to families affected by the Southport attacks to attend her annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey on 6 December. This year’s event is particularly significant as it comes after Catherine’s largely reduced public presence due to her cancer diagnosis.

In a touching gesture of support, the Princess and Prince of Wales recently visited Southport, holding a private meeting with the bereaved families of three children tragically killed in a knife attack in July. The victims – Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9 – were killed during a children’s dance group event. During their visit, the royal couple not only met with the families but also conveyed their gratitude to emergency responders.

The Together At Christmas service, now in its fourth year, is supported by the Royal Foundation and will bring together approximately 1,600 invited guests. These attendees are primarily individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to supporting others through their work or volunteering efforts. Nominees have been selected by charities associated with the Royal Family and lord lieutenants representing the King in various counties.

The event promises to be a memorable occasion, featuring musical performances by renowned artists including Paloma Faith, Olivia Dean, and Gregory Porter. It will be broadcast on ITV1 as part of a special Christmas Eve program, extending its reach to a wider audience.

Beyond the main service at Westminster Abbey, fifteen additional Together At Christmas services will be held across the country, including locations such as the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and Blackpool Tower Circus.

Kensington Palace emphasized the service’s deeper purpose, describing it as an opportunity to “reflect upon the importance of love and empathy” and recognize how crucial human connection is, especially during challenging times. The Princess of Wales aims to celebrate individuals who have inspired, counseled, and comforted others, believing that “love is the greatest gift we can receive.”

This year’s carol service follows the Princess’s earlier participation in Remembrance events in London, marking her gradual return to public duties after completing chemotherapy treatment. Her invitation to the Southport families demonstrates her continued commitment to supporting communities during difficult moments.

The event symbolizes a message of hope, compassion, and unity, bringing together people from various backgrounds to share in the spirit of Christmas and mutual support.
