Controversial conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has been reinstated on X (formerly Twitter) after a poll conducted by X owner Elon Musk. Approximately two million respondents voted, with 70% in favor of lifting the ban. Jones is known for spreading false claims about the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting and was ordered to pay $1.5 billion in damages to the victims’ families. He was previously banned from other major platforms such as YouTube and Facebook. Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist influencer who is facing trial on serious charges, also had his account reinstated last year and praised Jones in a social media post. Musk initially rejected calls to reinstate Jones’s account but later asked users to vote on the matter. After the poll ended, Jones’s account was reinstated. Musk has taken a strong stance on free speech online, even in the face of financial consequences.
