The review, led by Conservative peer Baroness Bertin, aims to gather input from the public, adult performers, and law enforcement through a questionnaire. It will examine various aspects of pornography, including its effects on relationships, mental health, and attitudes towards women and girls. Additionally, the review will explore how artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality are changing the production and consumption of pornography. Concerns about AI-generated child abuse images and non-consensual pornography will also be addressed. The review aims to help “future proof the law” as technology evolves. However, the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for the adult industry, has expressed skepticism, calling the review a pretext for censorship. The organization hopes to participate in the discussion and dispel myths surrounding the industry. The review is expected to report back in 2024.
