British AI pioneer Mustafa Suleyman partners with Microsoft

Microsoft has announced that British Artificial Intelligence pioneer Mustafa Suleyman will lead its newly-formed division, Microsoft AI. Mr. Suleyman, known for co-founding AI firm DeepMind, currently heads start-up Inflection AI. DeepMind was acquired by Google in 2014.

Mr. Suleyman’s move to Microsoft solidifies the company’s reputation as a leader in artificial intelligence. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed his excitement about his new position and mentioned that he would be bringing colleagues, including Karén Simonyan as chief scientist, with him to Microsoft.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella praised Mr. Suleyman as a visionary and product maker, highlighting his role in leading consumer AI products and research at Microsoft. The company has invested heavily in AI partnerships, including with OpenAI and Mistral AI.

On the other hand, Google has faced challenges with its AI-powered tool Gemini, leading to issues with historical image generation depictions. Reports suggest a potential collaboration with Apple to boost Google’s AI brand Gemini.
