Famous YouTuber, MrBeast, has disclosed that he earned over $250,000 from a video he posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. He had previously stated that posting on the site was not profitable due to low advertising revenue. However, after reversing his decision last week, he posted an old video that has since garnered over 155 million views. This move has attracted attention as X struggles with business challenges.
Elon Musk, X’s owner, has been trying to increase user engagement on the platform since acquiring it in October 2022. His strategies include sharing advertising revenue with high-profile creators, a practice already implemented by other platforms like YouTube. However, these plans have been met with skepticism as site traffic and advertising revenue have decreased, partly due to Musk’s ongoing disputes with advertisers over issues like hate speech and misinformation.
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, had previously claimed that even a billion views wouldn’t make posting on X worthwhile. Yet, he expressed curiosity about the potential advertising revenue from his video. He acknowledged that the large sum seemed deceptive and suggested that his revenue per view might be higher than average due to advertisers buying ads on his popular video.
Analysts believe that replicating such earnings would be challenging without MrBeast’s significant online presence. The earnings of influencers vary widely, and the specifics of individual deals are usually confidential. In November 2022, Forbes estimated that MrBeast made $54m in a year from his YouTube channel.
MrBeast’s large audience has attracted companies seeking to enhance their platforms. He is reportedly negotiating a deal for a show with a major streaming platform. He had previously posted the same video on YouTube in September 2023, where it has over 215 million views.
According to WeArism, a MrBeast video can earn more than $1m on YouTube over time. However, on X, where fresh content is favored, a similar post might not have the same longevity.
MrBeast’s experiment is unique, as most creators wouldn’t attract similar viewing numbers or global media attention. His earnings from the video are not indicative of the typical experience for most of X’s users.
Rumors suggest that MrBeast may be negotiating his own show with a large streaming platform. If true, his experiment on X underscores his significant value.
