Kent Police Officer’s Attempted Murder: Man Charged

A man named Barry Rossiter, 23, from Nickley Wood, Ashford, has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer in a road accident in Kent. He has also been accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and assaulting an emergency worker. The incident occurred on Coulter Road, Ashford, on 26 January around 15:15 GMT. The officer was on foot when he was hit by a car that allegedly did not stop at the scene.

Rossiter appeared in Maidstone Crown Court on Saturday and is scheduled for a hearing at Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday. Four other individuals – two men aged 19 and 37, and two women aged 19 and 32 – were also apprehended in relation to the incident. All are locals and have been released on bail while further investigations are carried out.

A sixth individual, a 19-year-old man from Ashford, was taken into custody on Friday and remains there. The police officer sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized but has since been released.
