TikTok and Temu have removed inexpensive electric heaters from their online stores after a safety investigation by consumer group Which? found that the heaters posed a risk of explosion or starting fires. Which? tested eight heaters, with the cheapest priced at £7.20, and discovered that most did not meet UK safety standards. Some of the heaters had been promoted by influencers on TikTok. Despite both companies removing the products from sale, Which? found that similar listings had appeared in their place. Which? called for greater regulation of cheap electric heaters and for online marketplaces to take responsibility for unsafe products. The group also highlighted the role of influencers in promoting the hazardous heaters.
