Actress and director Amy Schumer has responded to online speculation about her facial appearance, explaining that it is “puffier than normal” due to endometriosis. Schumer was on US TV discussing the second season of her series, Life & Beth, which she writes, directs, and stars in. Following her appearance, she faced a mix of jokes, medical speculation, and supportive comments about her face.

Schumer addressed the comments semi-seriously on Instagram, acknowledging that she has been subject to scrutiny about her appearance for nearly 20 years, as many women are. She confirmed that her face is puffier than usual due to endometriosis, an autoimmune disease she encourages all women to learn about.

Despite dealing with some medical and hormonal issues, Schumer reassured her followers that she is okay. She also received support from other women on Twitter, who shared their own experiences with endometriosis and called for an end to body shaming.

In her post, Schumer also highlighted the historical lack of medical research on women’s bodies compared to men’s. She emphasized that women do not owe anyone an explanation for their physical appearance.

Schumer, known for her roles in Inside Amy Schumer, Trainwreck, and I Feel Pretty, has previously advocated for body positivity and self-acceptance. She redirected the conversation back to her TV show on Hulu and expressed pride in her work.

Schumer also revealed in 2020 that she has Lyme disease.
