A YouTuber known as TheMalibuArtist may have provided valuable insights into the birth of great white sharks. Carlos Gauna, who has gained fame for his drone footage of sharks, captured footage of a small, white shark with flaking skin near Santa Barbara, California. Shark researcher Phil Sternes believes this could be evidence of a newborn shark, as the shape of the fins and the size of the shark resemble those of shark embryos and newborns. However, other marine biologists urge caution, suggesting that the white layer could be due to a skin condition or other factors. The observation has been published in the journal Environmental Biology of Fishes. Carlos hopes to one day capture footage of a great white shark being born.
